Ongoing Professional Development

Ongoing Professional Development (OPD) is the systematic and structured learning that professional celebrants undertake throughout their careers to ensure that they continually maintain and enhance their knowledge and skills and improve the quality of service they offer.  For an editable version of the OPD form click here:

In general members take responsibility for their own ongoing professional development, and they are supported in this through their membership of CANZ. Since its establishment, education has been a key service that CANZ has delivered, and members have the opportunity to attend:

  • Biennial Conferences and Education Forum. These provide keynote speakers, workshops and discussion groups covering a wide range of topics relevant to celebrants and celebrancy.
  • Workshops and seminars held at Branch level.
  • Peer learning groups.

Members are also supported in their learning through:

  • Articles in our CANZ Magazine "Panui" and in Branch Newsletters
  • Articles and links on the CANZ Website

CANZ encourages all Members to reflect upon their practice and to undertake OPD as part of their professional responsibility. Members are provided with a Record Card on which to record their learning activities on an ongoing basis.
